General
Forgotten X is a native app (iOS and Android) for discovering and documenting abandoned places (Lost Places). It offers an interactive map, a community with photos, 360° panoramas and comments – and it works completely offline.
Yes, the base version is free and already very comprehensive. Additional convenience and planning features are bundled in the Pro version as a one-time purchase. See the “Pro version” section below for exactly what's included.
Yes. All data is stored locally on your device and syncs automatically with the server when a connection is available. Content created offline is uploaded on your next online session – ideal for remote areas without reception.
Forgotten X is available for iOS and Android – on the App Store and Google Play.
Not for browsing, exploring or creating private places. Uploading photos and 360° panoramas, commenting and submitting public places require a free account – registration works via email and a confirmation code.
Map & Discovery
The list shows the closest places around your location, and the map shows all available places. Even without location access you can view all Lost Places and set your location manually.
Ghost pins mark potential, not-yet-documented places suggested by the community. You can show or hide them, report them, and open their coordinates directly in Apple Maps.
Yes. You can switch between map types (the app can remember your choice) and filter places by type; accessibility is shown by color. Extended markers, filters and color options are part of the Pro version.
The global map search for Lost Places, regions and addresses – local and international – is part of the Pro version.
In the Pro version the app shows the distance when you tap a place – and, with a home location set, the distance from home as well.
With Pro you can set, display and find your parked vehicle again using the bearing/compass function – handy on tours in unfamiliar areas.
Places, Photos & Community
Name, description, geo data, warnings, place type and accessibility – organized into info, photos, 360° panoramas, comments and notes. A mini-map is built in; coordinates can be opened in Apple Maps or Google Maps, and public places can be shared via link.
Yes. You can submit public places for the community (they are reviewed before release and shown to you locally in the meantime) or create private places visible only to you.
As a signed-in user, via the plus button in a place's Photos tab. You can also upload 360° panoramas – a built-in viewer displays them. Each image shows the user and creation date.
The home feed shows the latest community activity – new places, photos, panoramas and comments – as well as app announcements. You can filter by type and jump straight into the relevant detail view.
Yes, places, photos, 360° panoramas and comments can be reported. Reported content is reviewed promptly.
You can mark places as favorite or as visited. The searchable favorites and visited lists, as well as hiding and showing visited places in the list and on the map, are part of the Pro version.
Private Places & Drafts
Places stored only locally on your device and visible only to you – ideal for your own finds that shouldn't (yet) be public.
You can enter coordinates manually, use your current location, pick them via a map picker, or read them from a photo's image data. The app checks whether a place already exists at the same spot. Unfinished entries can be saved as drafts and continued later.
Yes. You can edit secret places, add personal notes and photos, and export, share and re-import them.
Pro Version
Pro bundles convenience and planning features: searchable favorites and visited lists, global place/region/address search, a home location with distance display, extended map markers, filters and accessibility colors, vehicle parking position with compass, sorting activity by distance, detail and comment translations, the Updates tab, route planning and the photo book.
Pro is a one-time purchase via the app store – no subscription. Previous purchases can be restored at any time. You'll see the current price right in the app.
With a home location set, the app calculates the distance to all places from there – handy for planning tours.
Yes. Pro translates detail information and comments into your device language; the source language is detected automatically and you can switch back to the original text at any time.
Plan routes from your location or a freely chosen starting point to a place or search destination – including alternative routes plus distance and duration. Multi-stop routes with several places, adjustable order and places along the way are possible; the route can be handed off to Apple Maps.
Create a photo book from your own uploaded photos: choose places and photos, set a cover, title, date and style, optionally include your own comments. The result is generated as a PDF and can be shared.
The Updates tab (for signed-in Pro users) collects news about places relevant to you, grouped by time period. You can subscribe to new photos, comments, favorite updates and app news via push, and set the minimum interval between notifications.
Gear, Support & Safety
Yes. In the menu you'll find “Recommended gear” with products we use ourselves – including community discount codes to copy. Also on this website under Gear.
Via the support and feedback form in the app (optionally with an email for a reply) or here under Support/Contact. You can see your requests with open or answered status.
Entering can be a legal gray area. Inform yourself in advance about property rights and access restrictions – entering is always at your own risk and responsibility.
Your safety: sturdy shoes, a flashlight, never go alone, respect nature and leave no traces. Always heed the warnings in the location descriptions.
